IN THE RAW is a live script reading program developed to give filmmakers an opportunity to present their scripts to a live audience and receive valuable feedback.
This program showcases exciting, unproduced screenplays as read by notable Australian actors. The initiative allows collaboration between audiences, writers, actors, and producers and has played a key role in developing new Australian films and launching the careers of those involved. A number of films have been picked up as a result of the program including Sleeping Beauty with Emily Browning and 33 Postcards featuring Guy Pearce. 2011 saw IN THE RAW transcended the festival framework to become a regular Sydney event on Cockatoo Island.
IN THE RAW is presented by the Cockatoo Island Film Festival and the Cockatoo Institute, a not-for-profit arts and education organisation which hosts the Dungog Film Festival and the Inland NSW Film Festival.
